Well I admit I am behind in posting, but I guess it could be worse!
Landon turned TEN MONTHS OLD (yes, I am in shock too) on March 4th. Ten months old! Can you believe it?? I can't. It seems like just yesterday I was holding his tiny little self in my arms. Now, he had rather be on the move. He will let you hold him on occasion but usually not for very long. He wants to crawl around and see what he can get into! :)
We experienced his first sickness a few weeks ago. He went to bed with a somewhat runny nose and a low grade fever. I assumed he was teething and decided to watch him overnight and make sure his fever didn't get high. Thankfully I decided to monitor his fever overnight because I woke up at one point and checked his temp. and it was 102.7!! He has never run a fever over 100 degrees since he has been born so it freaked me out a bit. Not to mention, it was 2am and the only place I could take him was to the ER. Luckily, I have many friends in the nursing field. I had talked to two of them that afternoon and they had given me some medical advice on what to do if Landon's fever got up during the night (THANK YOU Laura Beth & Whitney!!). After discovering that his temp. was 102.7, I stripped him down to his diaper and began giving him Tylenol & Motrin, alternating the two every two hours. Needless to say, TJ and I didn't get much sleep that night but we were so worried about Landon we were pretty much running on adrenaline!
The next morning, Landon had a horrible cough and was still running fever. His nose was running like a faucet but it was stopped up as well. I called at like 8:05am and got him a doctor's appointment with Dr. Blake, Landon's pediatrician. Our appointment wasn't until 1:20pm that afternoon. We went to the doctor, where they tested him for the flu. The flu test came back negative. The nurse told me the doctor was going to check Landon out (listen to his chest and lungs, look at his throat & ears, etc.) and if necessary, they would test him for RSV and strep. After Dr. Blake examined him, he quickly confirmed that Landon had the croup. We were given a steroid to give Landon by mouth for 3 days. Apparently the steroid had a very strong taste because he would scream every time we gave it to him. After a few days, Landon started coughing a lot and you could hear everything "breaking up" just as Dr. Blake said it would. He is finally feeling better and back to his normal self, thank goodness!
A few things Landon is doing at 10 months:
-He is saying "mama," "dada" (and occasionally "da dee"), "ba ba" (which sounds like "bye bye" and makes sense since he says it when someone is leaving), still saying "mmmmm baaaa" and we still can't figure that one out. He also says something that sounds like "hey there" and I have actually heard him try to say the dog's name... or at least something that sounds very similar to "Toto." He is also saying something very close to "Jen Jen" and his Aunt Jenni is LOVING that.
-Landon still loves to play with Toto and chase her around the house.
-Landon is still pulling up, still "cruising" along everything he can get his hands on, and still standing alone for several seconds at a time. He is taking a few steps here and there but most of the time, once he realizes he isn't holding onto anything or anyone he decides to sit down. I know one day he is just going to stand up and start walking and then we are going to be in trouble!
-He loves to eat the Graduate puffs, sweet potato flavor. He eats several of those at a time. Landon will also eat green peas (actual green peas, not the baby food), but he has to smash them on the tray of his highchair first. It is quite comical. He also likes white beans, green beans, mashed potatoes, and black eyed peas.
-He likes apple juice and can finally drink it without throwing it up. Some days he takes it out of a sippy cup, but others he wants nothing to do with the cup.
-Landon LOVES to play outside. He will literally ride in his stroller, walk around in his walker, or push around his toys for hours. He gets so mad when you try to bring him inside for a nap, to eat, etc.
-Landon & I also recently learned that one of our good friends, Laura Beth, will be having a little boy in July!! We are so excited, and Landon is thrilled he is going to have a playmate! Laura Beth & I grew up together and now our boys will also get to grow up together.
I am working on planning his first birthday and I think that is just insane! We are doing a farm animals theme for his birthday. I have already picked out the cake and a smash cake as well. I have to order balloons for decorations and my awesome sister has made the invitations for the party. Because Landon still has so many toys from Christmas that are still in the boxes (we didn't get them all out at once... we wanted to introduce a few at a time so he would be able to enjoy them all), we are asking that the guests to his birthday party bring books instead of toys. We are running out of places to put all these toys. Books are wonderful gifts for kids, especially the classic titles, and something that we don't have just a whole lot of (minus the board books we've gotten as well as the books we get monthly from Imagination Library).
I am so excited to be off for the next two weeks so I can stay home with Landon. We have lots of fun things planned over the next two weeks and I hope the weather stays nice so we can actually enjoy being outside!! I will be back next month, if not before then, with more updates about Landon's first birthday and of course some of the milestones he has reached at 11 months! :)
